After working with more than 40 low-income individuals and families over the years, it became clear that despite the efforts of UPLIFT staff, volunteers and participants there was less impact and lasting change in the participants’ situations than desired.
In early 2018, UPLIFT Chatham began researching successful models for working with low-income families. During this process, UPLIFT was introduced to the Greensboro Family Success Center, a program built on evidence-based, best practices gleaned from programs across the country. Their Integrated Service Delivery (ISD) model has produced positive outcomes with families demonstrating statistically significant growth on key indicators of financial self-sufficiency and stability.
The ISD model brings multiple partners together in one location to offer comprehensive services. These services are bundled (grouped) and sequenced (appropriate time and order) in three core areas (work, income and health supports; education and career advancement; financial services and asset building) for maximum benefit. Research shows that clients who receive high-intensity bundled services are three to four times more likely to achieve a significant economic outcome as those who receive services individually (Economic Mobility Corporation 2016). Other key components are whole family engagement (two-generational approach) and individualized case management/coaching services.
UPLIFT Chatham is currently focused on coordinating an Integrated Service Delivery model pilot project in Siler City with a target launch date of fall 2020.
